Eleanor Matsuura

Eleanor Matsuura is a Japanese/English actress who is perhaps best known for her starring role in the Woody Harrelson film Lost in London and for playing DI Hopkins in the renowned BBC series Sherlock, with Benedict Cumberbatch, in addition to playing Yumiko in AMC’s The Walking Dead. Matsuura played Madam Singh in the third series of the drama Da Vinci’s Demons and a key role in the Channel 4 thriller, Utopia. She also played the recurring role Baron Chau in Seasons 2 and 3 of AMC’s cult hit Into The Badlands and starred as British MI5 Agent Hannah Santo in the film Spooks: The Greater Good, created from the award-winning BBC television show, alongside Peter Firth, Kit Harrington, and Jennifer Ehle. Other notable television credits include Donna Prager in BBC’s Cuffs and Hippolyta in the BBC adaptation of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, opposite Maxine Peake. Matsuura worked alongside Dame Maggie Smith in the British film The Lady in a Van, directed by Nick Hytner; and in The Love Punch, with Pierce Brosnan and Emma Thompson. She was also featured in the British comedy Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa and Breaking and Entering. A graduate from the Central School of Speech and Drama, Matsuura has worked extensively in London and New York theatre. She made her stage debut playing Virgilia in Coriolanus for the Royal Shakespeare Company. Other plays include Danton’s Death at The National Theatre and The Changeling at The Young Vic Theatre. She starred in the multi award winning hit play Enron, directed by Rupert Gould at The Royal Court theatre and in the West End. Following a hugely successful run in the United Kingdom and New York, she also reprised the lead role in Mike Bartlett’s Olivier award winning new play Bull at the Young Vic Theatre. Matsuura recently performed at the Harold Pinter Theatre in Party Time and Celebration, as part of the new ‘Pinter at the Pinter’ season of one-act plays on the 10th Anniversary of the Nobel Prize winner’s death.
