You've heard that the Whisperers are a threat unlike any Daryl (Norman Reedus) and the survivors of The Walking Dead have ever faced.

But who are Alpha, Beta and the Whisperers, the talking walker gang of TWD?

The Whisperers are not talking walkers at all, but rather a group of survivors led by Alpha (played by Samantha Morton) and Beta (played by Ryan Hurst), who wear the skins of walkers in order to pass among the dead and lead herds of walkers who they use as both camouflage and weapons.

They live in the wild and adhere to the rules of their leader, Alpha, who enforces her laws with an iron fist.

In Season 9 of The Walking Dead, Daryl, Carol (Melissa McBride) and Michonne's (Danai Gurira) group made the mistake of tangling with Alpha and some of the group's closest friends and family paid with their lives.

With TWD Season 10 now available to stream on amc.com and AMC apps, it is a few months after the group of survivors dared to cross into Whisperer territory during the harsh winter. While the survivors are organizing themselves into militia-style fighting force, the Whisperers are backed by a massive horde of the dead.

In TWD Season 10, there will also be a new Whisperer, Gamma, played by Thora Birch. Gamma is a Whisperer sentry who is fiercely protective of Alpha. She is a believer and committed to the Whisperers’ way of life. View the first-look images of Birch as Gamma now.
