The Cast and Creators on Breaking the Cycle of Violence in the Badlands -- Inside Episode 4
In the latest episode, M.K. resolves to kill Sunny to avenge the murder of his mother -- but Tilda urges him to forge a better path.
"Tilda tries to stop him by articulating one of the big themes of the season, which is, if we want a better world, we have to break this cycle of violence," explains series Co-Creator and Executive Produdcer Al Gough.

While M.K. doubles down on his path towards violence, Sunny is facing the consequences of his bloody past when he is captured by a group of cannibals that he blinded and threw out of the Badlands. "This episode for Sunny almost becomes a metaphor for this idea of what he has to deal with -- the regret, the pain and all that suffering that he's caused on people," says Daniel Wu.
When Sunny later refuses to fight Nathaniel Moon and continue the cycle, it marks a new hope for them both. "You start to see in this episode both cycles of forgiveness and people getting more entrenched in their revenge," says Gough.
