The Ipcress File
This six-part thriller isn't just based on Len Deighton's classic novel The Ipcress File, but also on the iconic movie starring Michael Caine. In this cleverly reworked version, Peaky Blinders' Joe Cole plays Harry Palmer, the small-time crook who's offered a shot at redemption by the head of an influential espionage unit (Tom Hollander's Major Dalby). This New Zealand crime drama blends mystery with the mystical. It follows young Māori detective Ariki Davis (Dominic Ona-Ariki) as he investigates the death of a prominent local figure whose body is found in the water underneath the titular One Lane Bridge. In the process, Davis finds himself tapping into his matakite, an aspect of Māori spirituality akin to second sight or divination.
