Saul, Bob Odenkirk Win Monte Carlo Awards, Earn TCA Nods

This week, Better Call Saul and Bob Odenkirk win awards at the Monte Carlo TV Festival, while Odenkirk and the show also earn nominations from the TCA. Plus, Rhea Seehorn describes Kim to Entertainment Tonight. Read on for more:

• According to Variety, Better Call Saul and Bob Odenkirk won the best comedy and best comedy actor awards at the Monte Carlo Television Festival.

• The Los Angeles Times reports that the Television Critics Association honored Bob Odenkirk and Better Call Saul with nominations in the Individual Achievement in Drama and Outstanding Achievement in Drama categories respectively.

• Talking to Entertainment Tonight, Rhea Seehorn says, of playing Kim, "It was fun to play somebody like that, who really holds their cards to their chest. Even though we see more and more of her, she’s kind of a poker-face person."

TheWrap interviews Rhea Seehorn, who praises Better Call Saul as "character-driven, but it’s also plot-driven. Everything is rich and textured. They expect the audience to be smart, and they expect them to think. You kind of really feel like you’re going on a journey."

• The Los Angeles Times interviews Rhea Seehorn, who says, "I read their scripts and it’s a thrill ride for me like watching it as a viewer. I’m turning the page and 'Oh, I’m scamming. And I’m sort of good at it.'"

USA Today's Emmy nomination picks include Better Call Saul for best drama, Bob Odenkirk for best actor and Jonathan Banks and Michael McKean for best supporting actor.

• The Boston Globe wants Emmy nods for Better Call Saul as best drama series and Bob Odenkirk as best drama lead actor, and The Hollywood Reporter is hoping for the same.

• Michael McKean talks to the Los Angeles Times about Chuck and Jimmy's rivalry: "The very specific pain at the center of it has a lot to do with one simple fact, which is: I made my mom proud. But Jimmy made her laugh."

Variety interviews the creative team behind Season 2's "Rebecca," with Director John Shiban saying Kim's montage was "really important, storytelling-wise, not only for the arc of her character for the episode but also the season."

• Rhea Seehorn explains Chuck's confrontation of Jimmy in front of Kim to Yahoo TV: "All of the characters in this world are having these internal struggles that are being forced on them with external circumstances of what, exactly, is right and wrong, and how do you follow your own path."

The Guardian deems Better Call Saul one of the best TV shows of 2016, calling it "hilarious but also touching and utterly human."

Deadline reports that Activision Blizzard's Skylanders Academy, which features the voice of Jonathan Banks, has gotten a two-season order on Netflix and will debut in the fall.
