Dark Winds
Based on Tony Hillerman's beloved Leaphorn & Chee books, this Western crime thriller series is set in the early '70s, on a remote outpost of the Navajo Nation near Monument Valley. Zahn McClarnon stars as Lieutenant Joe Leaphorn of the Tribal Police, who investigates a spate of seemingly unrelated crimes with help from his new deputy, Jim Chee (Kiowa Gordon). That Dirty Black Bag
If you like a Western with an edge, you'll want to delve into That Dirty Black Bag. This spaghetti western series follows an eight-day clash between principled sheriff Arthur McCoy (Dominic Cooper) and the notorious Red Bill (Douglas Booth), a bounty hunter who decapitates his victims, then stuffs their heads into a dirty black bag. Co-starring Anna Chancellor (The Watch) and Paterson Joseph (Law & Order: UK), this gripping eight-parter explores the dark side of the Far West through huge themes including love, faith, and revenge. Set in the 1860s, this epic Western series centers on the construction of America's first transcontinental railroad. "Hell on Wheels" was the nickname given to the mobile assembly of gambling houses, dance halls, saloons, and brothels that followed workers as they progressed westwards. Anson Mount stars as Cullen Bohannon, a former Confederate soldier who joins the project to track down Union soldiers who murdered his family during the American Civil War. The Son
Based on Philipp Meyer's novel, this Western series is filled with family intrigue. James Bond legend Pierce Brosnan stars as Eli McCullough, a tough Texan cattle baron who was kidnapped by Comanches as a teenager and raised as their adopted son. Now, more than 60 years later, he faces a question of succession as he contemplates handing over his business empire to his own sons and grandsons. Dark Winds' Zahn McClarnon co-stars as Toshaway, a Comanche tribal chief who views young Eli as flesh and blood after capturing him in his youth. Check out The Son on AMC+.
Murder at Yellowstone City
This engrossing Western crime movie takes place in a gold-rush boomtown where the glitter has really started to fade. When a prospector is murdered after striking gold, Sheriff Ambrose (Gabriel Byrne) points the finger at Cicero (Isaiah Mustafa), a former slave who's new in town. But as it becomes clear that Cicero isn't the true culprit, the town's minister Thaddeus Murphy (Thomas Jane) and wife, Alice (Anna Camp), have to lock horns with the headstrong sheriff to find out who was really responsible. God's Country
The great Thandiwe Newton stars in this neo-Western thriller based on a short story by James Lee Burke. She plays Sandra Guidry, a former cop turned college professor living in a remote town, who comes home to find a mysterious red truck parked in her driveway. It turns out to belong to a couple of hunters who want access to the forest behind her house, but when she politely declines, a battle of wills escalates. We know whose side we're on, but you can choose your fighter by watching God's Country on AMC+.

It follows an aging cowboy (Duvall) and his nephew (Haden Church) as they transport 500 horses from Oregon to Wyoming so they can sell them to the British Army.
Michelle Williams, Paul Dano, and Zoe Kazan star in Meek's Cutoff, a Western film based on a real-life tale of survival on the Oregon Trail. Another great cast assembles for The Salvation, a Danish Western film that stars The Walking Dead: Dead City's Jeffrey Dean Morgan as well as Mads Mikkelsen, Douglas Henshall, and Eva Green.
Meanwhile, thriller fans will enjoy Clearcut, a Canadian film about a white lawyer whose fundamental viewpoint is altered when he meets an Indigenous activist who wants to kidnap a logging mogul. And Hell on Wheels' Adam Beach stars in American Evil, an award-winning film about the deeply traumatizing effect of the American Indian boarding school system on the members of a Native American family.
