Pugilist Match (Season 1, Episode 5)

"It shouldn't come as any surprise that this scene was hard to shoot. Director Adam Davidson devoted the better part of three days to getting the entire sequence. Common and I had volunteered many hours and weekends to get the choreography to where we wanted it. Adam’s primary complaint is that it was too good and needed to be 'messed up.' On the last day, I had pizza and champagne delivered to Common’s dressing room. I’d accidentally slugged him and he deserved a little treat."

Executing Doc (Season 2, Episode 6)

"Before shooting the part where I walk Doc out into the field, actor Grainger Hines turned to me and said, 'Hell, if it was me, I’d be zig-zaggin’ my ass outta here.' It was hard to say goodbye to Grainger. A tremendous guy with a tremendous heart and a whole lot of talent. Love that guy."

Gunfight in Cheyenne (Season 3, Episode 9)

"This was another one that required a lot of rehearsal and time. Lucky for us, a lot of the trickier timing worked out of the first take. Case in point, when I shot the dude with the shotgun, that guy was wearing a body harness that was, in turn, connected to a pulley system system which would pull him off his feet when he got shot. But the gun barrel and he were both in the same shot. You couldn’t do it in editing. I can’t believe we got that shot on the first take. Big ups to our [special effects] department."

Walking Ruth to the Gallows (Season 4, Episode 12)

"Not an easy scene as you can imagine. That scene took a long time to film and Kasha had to keep getting into that emotional state over and over and over. I don’t know how she did it. She got a huge ovation at the end of the day. It’s tough to say goodbye to cast members and Kasha Kropinski had started to feel a bit like a little sister."

Discovering Fong’s Secret (Season 5, Episode 2)

"Oh, man. Angie and I should be arrested for all the fun we had. She is just so delightful to work with and I feel privileged that she was able to trust me in our work together. The dirty little secret about Angela Zhou is that she has a funny bone the size of Massachusetts. Just look at her funny and she loses it."

The Final Showdown with the Swede (Season 5, Episode 8)

"Christopher Heyerdahl is simply one of the best actors I’ve ever had the privilege of working with. Also one of the nicest guys. I desperately want to work on something with him. Preferably a comedy. Those who watch the show regularly I’m sure find it hard to picture, but Chris and I have a lot of laughs together. I hope I’m not overly aggrandizing myself by saying that I feel Cullen and the Swede have come to embody one of the great rivalries in TV westerns. It’s been a joy to discover that journey with Chris and the writers. All that from a role that was originally only supposed to last two episodes. The fact that the Swede came this far is a testament to Chris’s passion, talent and humanity."
